Important counseling prior to pilgrims
01- On departure to Hajj or Umrah, ask for pardon from relatives and friends. It is also imperative on the part of the relatives and friends to pardon the one who is departing for Hajj or Umrah. It has been mentioned in the holy hadith that agree to pardon your brother in Islam, who asks forgiveness, else won’t be able to make yourself to howdh Kowsar. (Anwarul Bishaara ma’a Fataawa Radhviyah Mukharraja, Volume 10, Page 726).
02- Take permission from the parents If Hajj has become Fardh (obligation), Hajj should be performed without the permission of parents. But for Umrah or Nafil (optional) Hajj do not travel for Hajj or Umrah, without the permission of the parents. It has wrongly been propagated that unless the parents perform Hajj the children could not.
03- If there is some amanah (something in the custody) or loan, just return them. If someone’s wealth has been grabbed without proper right, just return that also or get pardon from the affected party. If their whereabouts are not known, then distribute the amount to the poor.
04- Whatever is pending on your part in Prayers, Fasting and Zakah etc. perform them and do taubah (repentance) for the delay that might have occurred. The purpose of this journey should only be the pleasure of the All-mighty Allah and His beloved prophet sallallaahu alaihi wasallam.
05- It is the duty of the person who goes for Hajj or Umrah to spend from his Halaal wealth, otherwise there is no hope of acceptance of the same, but fardh (obligation) would only be complete.
06- Take extra money, more than necessary. Give help and sadaqah to relatives and poor on the way, because this act is the symbolic one for the Hajj Mabroor (acceptance of the Hajj). (Anwarul Bishaarah, Page 726)
07- While starting from home, load all your luggage on the rented car or taxi, with prior permission on showing the luggage to the owner of the vehicle. Do not load more than what is permitted by the owner. (Aydhan)
Story : While Syedna Abdullah Bin Mubarak Radhiallahuta’la anhuma was on a journey, he was given a letter by someone to hand over the same to someone else. He, Radhiallahuta’la anhu said “take permission from the owner of the conveyance because I have already shown him my entire luggage, this letter is excess to that. (Anwaar Al-Bishaarah).
08- It has been reported in a Hadith that if there are three persons in a journey, make Ameer (leader) one of them (Abu Dawood, Volume 3, Page 51, Hadith 2608). Due to this there would be a system and management in all affairs, hence make an Ameer someone.

09- The Ameer should be the one who is well-mannered and adheres Sunnah regularly.
10- Ameer is required to serve and protect his brothers in journey with him taking care of their comfort.
11- While departing, depart as if you depart from the world.
12- At the time of departure, take blessing from everyone for barakah (bounties).
13- No woman should travel without her husband or without a person who is satisfactorily prohibited (with whom Nikah is haraam for ever). Otherwise, she will have to bear the load of sins on every step till such time she returns home.
14- On wearing the dress for journey, if the time is not of makruh, pray four rakah nafil with Al-hamdu and the four Qul, before coming out of the home. Those four rakahs would safeguard the family and property till your return.
15- While departing from home, read, Ayathul Kursi (Verses of Kursi from Surah Al-Bakarah, 2:255) and also from قُلْ یٰٓاَیُّھَاالْکٰفِرُوْن to قُلْ اَعُوْذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاس except the سورہ تَبَّتْ total five Surahs. Read them all with بِسْمِ اللّٰہ and at the end also read بِسْمِ اللّٰہ . In Sha’ Allah, the Glorious! All your journey would be comfortable, that is you would not feel exhausted.
16- If the time is not of makruh, while the mosque of your area is nereby, then pray two rakah nafil in the mosque.
17- In the train or bus بِسْمِ اللّٰہ، اَللّٰہُ اَکْبَرْ، اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰہ , and سُبْحٰنَ اللّٰہ three times each and لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللّٰہ one time. Then recite supplications from Al-Qur’an. In sha’ Allah, the transport you travel through, would be safe from every kind of accident. The supplication for that is :
سُبْحٰنَ الَّذِیْ سَخَّرَ لَنَا ھٰذَا وَمَا کُنَّا لَہٗ مُقْرِنِیْنَo وَاِنَّآ اِلٰی رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُوْنَo (Surah Zukhraf, Parah-25, Chapter-43, verses 13-14).
Translation : "Glory to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it (by our efforts). And verily, to Our Sustainer, Allah the All-mighty, we indeed are to return!”.
18- When you happen to travel through Ship, recite this supplication from Al- Qur’an, to be safe from drowning:
Translation: "Embark therein, in the Name of Allâh will be its moving course and its resting anchorage. Surely, my Lord is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Hud 11:41)
They made not a just estimate of Allâh such as is due to Him. And on the Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand and the heavens will be rolled up in His Right Hand. Glorified is He, and High is He above all that they associate as partners with Him! (Surah Az-Zumar, 39:67).
(In this supplication, the first verse (Ayah) is from Surah Hud and the second one from Surah Az-Zumar).
19- If you temporarily disembark at any place from your vehicle, for the sake of Allah pray two rakah nafil (if the time is not of makruh), because this is sunnah.
20- After reaching the destination, recite this supplication whenever possible. In sha’ Allah The Glorious, you would be safe from every loss. The supplication is :
اَعُوْذُ بِکَلِمَاتِ اللّٰہِ التَّآمَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّمَاخَلَقَ
Translation: I seek refuge with the entire words of Allah from the evil which He, the Al-Mighty has created.
21- Recite یَاصَمَد 13 times everyday. You will feel tranquility while thirst or hunger.
22- If there is a fear of an enemy, recite Surah لِاِیْلٰف . In sha’ Allah the Glorious, you would be safe from every evil.
23- During the journey keep reciting the Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and blessings and salutations (darood sharif). An angel would be with you. Where there is loose talk, music and singing, shaitan used to be there, all along.
24- In the journey, supplicate for self and for all Muslims. The supplications of a traveler are accepted.
25- If any help is required in any predicament, it has been narrated in a holy hadith that call for the help three times, like this : اَعِیْنُوْنِیْ یَاعِبَادَ اللّٰہ Oh, the slaves of the All-Mighty Allah, help me. (Hisna Hasain, Page 82) ( Majmuaz zawa’id
Volume 10, Page 188, hadith 17103 & 17104)
26- In any transaction or in any matter with the Badoen or all Arabian people behave politely with them. Even if they misbehaved, bear with them respectfully. Whoever tolerate the highhandedness of the Arabs, our beloved holy prophet, Madani sallallaahu alaihi wasallam would intercede for him. Do not object to the acts of the residents of holy Makkah, or holy Madinah or of the entire Arabia, not even feeling any enmity within the heart for there is happiness and prosperity exist in both the worlds.
