Cutting Nails  And  Ihram

 

(1)       Cutting the nails in ihram is prohibited (haraam).  If any nail damaged and broken and not in a condition to grow more, then there is no objection to cut it off from the rest.(Bahar-e-Shariyat, Volume1, Part 6, pages 1078, 1172)

 

(2)       Unaware of such an issue of cutting the nails in ihram is haraam, if the nails of both the hands and legs are  cut, unknowingly or wantonly or on compulsion from someone else, in all such cases, Kaffarah is applied.

 

(3)       In the nails of both the hands and legs are cut in one sitting, then one Dam is obligatory.  If such nails are cut in two sittings, say, nails of hands in one time and nails of legs at another time, then Dam becomes obligatory for two times.  In the same, if the nails of hands and legs are cut in four different times, then Dam becomes obligatory all the four times. (Bahar-e-Shariyat, Volume 1, Part 6, Page 1172).

 

(4)       If the nails of four of the fingers out of five in a hand are cut, one Sadaqah, per finger becomes obligatory (wajib).  Hence, four Sadaqah becomes wajib. (Bahar-e-Shariyat, Volume 1, Part 6, Page 1172)

 

(5)       Though the nails are cut by the use of the blade, a knife, by a nail cutter or bitten off by teeth, for all these acts, the same command of Sadaqahwajib applies.  (Bahar-e-Shariyat, Volume 1, Part 6, Page 1172)

 

(6)       A Muhrim (the one who is wearing the ihram) cannot cut nails of others.  (Bahar-e-Shariyat, Volume 1, Part 6, Page 1172).If a Muhrim cuts the nails of another Muhrim, then both of them will have to give some alms to the poor.  (Bahar-e-Shariyat, Volume 1, Part 6, Page 1142, 1171)
