BOUNDARIES OF HARAM SHARIF
Not only the general public but also the important persons call the Masjid Haraam  only “Haram Sharif” (Santuary).  There is no doubt in this that the Masjid Haraam Sharif is  included within the holy Haram (sanctuary). But the Haram Sharif includes the holy Makkah (Makkah’s population at the border is increasing to cross the limits, for example, the Tan’im has to be out of the Haram, but it is now in the City Makkah (Allah and his Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wasallam knows best) that spreads in miles everywhere.  There are borders in each place. For example, coming over to Makkah Muzzama from Jeddah, before 33 kilo meters, there comes a police station, where there is a sign board having been written glaringly   (“Lil Muslimeen Faqth” that is to say “Only for Muslims”)  Far from this there is a place called Bai-e-Shamis or Hudaiba. The boundary of Haram Sharif starts from here.

Anyway, when you happen to enter the boundaries of Makkah, keep your head bowed down, with blushing eyes and with humility and focus.  Keep reciting Dhikr of Darood Sharif and Labbaik abundantly.  Once you get a glance on the holy Makkah, the city of Allah the Rabbul Aalamin, Jalle-jalaalahu, recite this supplication:

اَللّٰھُمَّ اجْعَلْ لِّیْ قَرَارًا وَّارْزُقْنِیْ فِیْہَا رِزْقًاحَلَالًاط Oh Allah, the Glorious provide me with stability and halaal provisions in this city.  (Bahar-e-Shariyath, Volume 1, Part 6, Page 1082, 1085).

On arrival at Makkah Muazzamaa, find out a resting place to keep your luggage safely.  Then saying Labbaik, proceed towards the ‘Baab Al-Salaam’.  Kiss the holy door and enter the Masjid Al-Haram taking in your right foot first, as you enter the mosques usually, reciting the supplication :بِسْمِ اللّٰہِ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلٰی رَسُوْلِ اللّٰہِ الَلّٰھُمَّ افْتَحْ لِیْ اَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِکَ۔ By the name of Allah the Glorious and may peace be upon the holy Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wasallam, Oh Allah the Glorious, open the doors of  your Rahma (Mercy) for me. (Bahare-Shariyath, Volume 1, Part 6, Page 1087, 1088)

Recite Niyyah (Intention) for I’taakaaf (Staying at Masjid)
Whenever you enter the mosque, enter with the Niyyah of I’takaaf to earn more virtues.  Enter the Al-Haram Masjid also with the I’takaaf Niyyah because here every virtue is equal to one lakh virtues, hence you will get virtues of one lakh I’takaaf. Apart from this, incidentally eating, drinking Zam Zam water and sleeping etc. would become permissible due to this, otherwise, eating these things within the Masjid is not permissible.  Moreover, remember this when you enter any mosque.  The Niyyah for I’takaaf is this :

نَوَیْتُ سُنَّتَ الْاِعْتِکَاف

“I intend for I’takaaf, the Sunnah “
